Retribution

The water falling heavily from the sky and the blood running through my arms get all confused on the floor around us. The pain keeps me alert and focused to the danger in front of me.

The beast is wounded too, but it doesn’t look like its bothering him at all. His angry eyes are looking at me intensely. It’s hate what I see in them. Just waiting for the right time to strike, testing me and my senses, buying some time.

Slowly I get down on one knee, reaching for the small knife hidden in my boot. If I do it right, I can finish this with a single strike.

The beast growls and it gets angrier already suspecting and reading my intentions. He howls to the sky and hits the floor with his strong legs. I’m afraid it won’t be just the two of us anymore in a few minutes. Time is running out if I’m going to make it out of here in one piece.

Screw it.

I swiftly throw the knife in order to distract him. A straight hit in the arm, now we’re even, more or less. But I don’t have time to breath and I gotta get my sword back so I run with all my remaining strengths. I throw myself to it and right that last second before I hold it a big shadow gets behind me and I feel a hit on my side so hard it makes me fly easily ten feet away.

The beast howls one more time and jumps towards me, already tasting his new victim. Retribution is in order.

A quick move and a knife through the beast’s throat ends our duel.

The beast is moaning with pain and anger, bleeding all over the floor. I grab my cross shaped sword back and strike a merciful hit to end with his misery and all is quite just for a few seconds.

The moon is shining so bright and the rain appears to be fading away. I close my eyes for a while feeling the cold wind in my face, listening carefully.

In the distance I can hear howling and screaming getting closer in every direction so I get on my hover-bike and get ready to ride.

The night is still young and I’m up for the hunt.
